This evening we got on site a little earlier than we have been managing of late and erected a line of 4 nets from the reedbed and out into the lake. We added a fifth single on the spit that we walk down as we've seen birds crossing at this point. The combination of an earlier start and youngsters to bolster the numbers brought the total up to a much better return than we've had for quite some time.
There were decent numbers of Reed Warblers including some retraps, another young Cetti's Warbler, our first Sedge Warbler of the year as well as some Swallows and Sand Martins at the very end of the day. Much better than failing to reach double figures and worth having to wear waders/wellies on a warm summer's evening.
