Stanwell Moor - 26 June 2013

We'd intended to go down for any evening with light winds this week, but had given Tuesday a miss after the abysmal total on Monday. The planes were still taking off right over the lake. We were joined by EP on a nice evening and we met several people, mostly walking dogs on the private site. As we drove in one woman gave us a mouthful for declining to go back and unlock the gate so she could get out easily. The security guard was doing his best to encourage trespassers to leave.

We did a little better than the previous visit. A juvenile Chiff-chaff was our first of the summer and particularly pleasing. We got a couple of Starlings but, as expected, the hirundines preferred not to spend time directly under the flightpath.

On leaving, the gate was obscured by sundry items moved from a pile of fly-tipping - satellite dish, planks of wood, half a tin of paint with lid removed and a fire extinguisher. Honestly, no one else on site has authorisation - and someone seemed to particularly object that we wouldn't act as gate person.

Total : 4 (3)

Dunnock - 0 (2)
Reed Warbler - 1 (1)
Chiff-chaff - 1
Starling - 2
