The first sunny day following on from last Sunday when 50+ Black Hairstreaks were reported in the M40 compensation area. After the longish walk to get to the M40 end of the wood, things certainly did not seem a repeat of Sundays 50 odd, and through there may have been a few higher up, I only managed about four at a mid height level and got two poor shots of one that was lower enough. A bit disappointing after last Sundays glut, but they are now reported on the wane at other sites and the first was out on the 21st June, this being a species not know for a long flight period. There were a few marbled Whites flying but oddly none along the main pathway where they are also usually quite common. On the way back I was rewarded with a very fresh white Admiral flying around the path just before getting back tot he car park, but alas, and not unsurprisingly, it did not alight.
