Bernwood Forest & Homefield Wood - 17th July 2021

Bernwood Forest was visited in hope of Purple Emperor, which was achieved before getting out of the car as one floated over us as we parked up and landed behind the car we had just parked next to. Throughout the walk we eventually saw at least seven, but surprisingly no White Admirals. At least ten Purple Hairstreaks were seen along with a number of Silver-washed Fritillaries and Marbled Whites, together with some more common species.

A number of Darters were seen in the woods, mostly Common, a couple of Beautiful Demoiselle, two Brown Hawkers, Broad-bodied and Four-spotted Chasers.

Homefield Wood was visited primarily for White-letter Hairstreak and two were seen, with the odd chance of White Admiral and Purple Emperor, with one White Admiral being seen.
