Sculthorpe Moor - 7th May 2023

The weather continues to be a challenge. This morning looked like a window of opportunity with rain not due until late afternoon, but as it happened we had mizzle to start with followed by a couple of spells of slightly heavier rain and some time when it was completely dry - although we constantly kept an eye on the clouds.

The Cuckoo was about again, although not fooled by the decoy that we tried by one of the nets. The water level on the scrape continues to look high, two Hobbies and a couple of Little Ringed Plover were noted flying over the area. There are still very few damselflies or dragonflies about, although there seemed to have been an emergence of Mayflies very recently.

From the usual nets we managed 15 birds, two thirds being retraps. We caught the first Sedge Warbler of the season and most unexpected was a total of 4 retrapped Treecreepers.
