The wind has turned westerly and there are very few birds migrating
in the cold, windy and often damp weather. Our instinct that there was
nothing arriving and that whatever was able to move on had, ahead of the
bleak weather was confirmed by the few birds caught. Just three
unringed individuals caught on the first round and recaptures far
outweighing new birds. Most of the retraps have low fat so either intend
to stay or have not garnered enough fat to cross the Baltic.
The garden is looking very autumnal now and many more leaves, than birds, were taken from our nets.
Many leaves are now turning to orange, yellow
and brown and being blown from the trees.
