Gedser Fuglestation - 2 October 2015

The weather has switched back to being breezy in the mornings and breezier in the afternoons. Added to this it is becoming increasingly cold especially overnight.

It was clear that there had been no new arrival of birds today with a high proportion of recaptures on the record sheet and a much reduced species count of only seven. Towards the end of the session we we most surprised to find a Marsh Warbler (Kærsanger)  in one of the nets. Checking back through past data it seems that October is really quite late for this species with no October ringed records, for Gedser, for at least ten years.

Many of the recaptures were Goldcrest (Fuglekonge), apparently reluctant to move out of the garden.

Recaptured Goldcrest (Fuglekonge)

We have tried for owls a few times now without catching any Tengmalm's (Perleuge). We will have another try tonight as the wind speed should be dropping.
